Tomorrow, P will officially be 300 days in foal. Can you believe it! I decided to put up a little widget up to count down to her official due date. Remember though that she honestly could safely go anywhere from 320-360 days if she felt like it, so that's merely a suggestion date!
Since you all have been riding along with me on this journey, I want to keep you all as updated as possible on the countdown and any changes in her, especially when she gets close. Anyone have any particular suggestions on this? Somebody suggested putting blippets up on Twitter and then linking them back to the blog, or just posting quickie updates, or? Who has some ideas? For sure I'll be posting updates either way, but I want to keep everyone in the loop!
I also want to start a running pool of guesses as to what the gender, color, and markings of the baby are going to be. Maybe I will give a prize to whoever picks the closest thing! I don't do the whole blogging giveaways thing normally but I might have to make an exception for this. So what's your best guess? What color, gender, and markings do you think my tot will have? (Remember: mom is dark bay and dad is black so we're obviously limited by genetics, we're not going to get a palomino or anything!)
Guess away and get creative!
In terms of development: P's udders are already changing. They've been changing for at least a week now, nice and slow. Every day they're a little bit bigger. They have a long way to go, and they don't have any fluid that is ready to be expressed yet, but they're definitely beginning to fill!
Day 298 |
In terms of her bump, I haven't seen her out from under a blanket in the daylight in two weeks. It appears to be enormously enormous but it's a bit hard to tell under the layers!
It's still winter death weather here in Texas. Today it got *slightly* warmer, warm enough to melt the ice, but it's still spitting rain. Tomorrow ANOTHER ice storm comes rolling in... awesome. O is now 1.5 weeks off and I'm not sure that I'll get to work her anytime in the next century at this rate. My hope is that on Thursday I'll be able to at least drive her down the road. I *really* want to lunge her first before I stick her between the shafts, but it's just impossible. Everything is thick, slippery mud... won't be lunging for awhile. Hopefully she'll get the fizzies out by running around in the field first... hopefully.
Oh well... if nothing else, at least I got adorable muddy pictures of O, P, and Gerhardt the cat being precious yesterday:
That cat is adorable lol. So excited for the foal - my guess is little dark bay filly w four white socks and a star and snip :)
