Countdown to Our First Event: 3 Days!!

Oh man!! I am starting to get pumped and slightly anxious for our first little event! I'm only anxious because I decided after all to give the canter a go even though it will probably be a bit of a mess... it's only a schooling show, so we'll be doing exactly that... schooling! All I really care about is getting around stadium and XC clean - the dressage will come as it comes, and it will come no faster than it will come. There is no rushing flatwork.

O has done a mixture of flatwork and lunging this week, which has been a nice change of pace. I haven't done any lunging at all in the past two months, and I think after lunging her twice this week (once due to it being totally dark and not being able to hardly see anything, but still wanting to give her a work, and once because I didn't have enough time to ride between appointments) that I won't be adding it back to our regular workouts. It's good for stretching her out, and if she were to actually respond to the chambon properly (she doesn't) then I would do it more often probably, but otherwise it doesn't do her any services. It's a bit more difficult to rate her on the end of the lunge line versus under saddle, and so she spends more time just running around unbalanced when she's on the lunge. We don't want that, so we'll just keep it canned for the time being. Saddle work is more beneficial anyway, but it is nice to be able to actually give her a short time harder workout when I don't have time to sort it all out under saddle.

Man she is looking GOOD. I went back and hacked down some more of that mohawk, since it is starting to wave in the breeze when she trots... nooo! She is starting to darken up with her winter coat, but so far has grown next to no hair at all. The days are still in the 90's (aaaah, so balmy) but there is supposed to be a cold front blowing in on Friday, which supposedly is bring temps in the 70's during the day and the FREAKING 40's at night! The only upside to this that I can see is that I can safely sheet her to keep her clean before the show without feeling bad about it. But seriously, I can't even remember what 40 degrees feels like... or 50, or 60 degrees!

We go to WD tomorrow... go XC schooling in 2 days... go to the show in 3 days... and in 4 days, my BIG NEWS is happening! I think I'll give it another day or two, just to tease you all ;)

And in 8 days, it will be exactly 2 years since Gogo died. I still don't feel quite right... I don't think I ever will.

  1. Wow! I can not believe it's been almost 2 years since Gogo died. It feels like yesterday to me, and I didn't even really know her. Hugs to you!

  2. Dang she looks good. I can't believe Gogo's gone two years already either, but it's wonderful that by that two year mark you'll have gone to the show with O and have come so far in moving onwards. Did you get Gogo's mane & tail hair braided into a keepsake in the end? <3
